Green Police, the much-anticipated Super Bowl ad from Audi, debuted today in advance of its airing during the fourth quarter of the big game on Sunday. See the video add below and let us know what you think about its future view of a green police state.
The Green Police Super Bowl ad provides a lighthearted take on the dizzying array of choices confronting those who want to adopt a green lifestyle and minimize their impact on the environment. The 60-second spot ends with the Green Police confirming that the Audi A3 TDI clean diesel is a green choice. The A3 TDI recently won the 2010 Green Car of the Year award presented by Green Car Journal and provides an EPA-rated 42 mpg on the highway — the highest fuel-economy number of any luxury car sold in the U.S. The clean diesel technology of the A3 TDI also reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 30%.

With the delivery of two fuel-cell trucks to the Linde Gases Division, part of technology company The Linde Group, Linde Material Handling has taken another important step on the road to more intensive use of innovative drive technology. As the first industrial truck manufacturer in Europe, Linde MH has incorporated fuel cell trucks into its product range. The trucks are now offered as standard and with immediate effect, as a “Customised Option”.
Both fuel-cell trucks are based on the 3-tonne electric counterbalanced truck, the Linde E30. In addition, the enhanced beverage industry version offers an optimised view over the load. In place of the usual 80-volt battery, the trucks have a fuel cell and a tank, which stores 1.6 kilograms of hydrogen gas at 350 bar. The electricity generated from the hydrogen supplies the electric motors that drive the truck. Alongside this are so-called supercaps, large condensers, which act as a buffer and cover performance peaks, such as pulling away or lifting, for example. The trucks bear the CE mark and are permitted for use on public roads. When it comes to performance data, the trucks are not different to the equivalent battery-powered model in the range and they are tailored spe-cially to Linde Gas’ customer requirements.

Have you ever thought about buying an electric car but your are waiting for the prices to come down and the technology to mature? What about an electric motorcycle? Here is one start-up company based out of California that is making several very cool models that you can choose from.
Zero Motorcycles has announced that their electric Zero S and Zero DS models have passed both U.S. and Canadian safety standards, and received a Certificate of Conformity from the Environmental Protection Agency. This means that buyers of the Zero S and DS are now eligible for a ten percent federal tax credit and sales tax credit as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Santa Cruz, CA based Zero says theirs are the first electric motorcycles to pass the safety standards and achieve EPA certification. The company is claiming a 455-mpg equivalent for both the S and DS, which use the same lithium ion battery and 4 kWh electric motor. Check out the video of one of their bikes being tested.

President Barack Obama this week announced a series of steps his Administration is taking as part of its comprehensive strategy to enhance American energy independence while building a foundation for a new clean energy economy, and its promise of new industries and millions of jobs.
At a meeting with a bipartisan group of governors from around the country, the President laid out three measures that will work in concert to boost biofuels production and reduce our dangerous dependence on foreign oil. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has finalized a rule to implement the long-term renewable fuels standard of 36 billion gallons by 2022 established by Congress. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has proposed a rule on the Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) that would provide financing to increase the conversion of biomass to bioenergy. The President’s Biofuels Interagency Working Group released its first report – Growing America’s Fuel. The report, authored by group co-chairs, Secretaries Vilsack and Chu, and Administrator Jackson, lays out a strategy to advance the development and commercialization of a sustainable biofuels industry to meet or exceed the nation’s biofuels targets.

Nissan North America has announced its selection of AeroVironment to supply electric vehicle home-charging stations and installation services supporting the introduction of the zero-emission, all-electric Nissan LEAF later this year.
The Nissan LEAF five-passenger electric car will be powered by an advanced, lithium-ion battery pack that will provide a drive range of 100 miles on a full charge, as measured by the LA4 test cycle. AV’s Nissan-branded charging stations will be available at the sale of each Nissan LEAF as part of the vehicle’s total driving system. The home-charging stations are designed to provide a safe and reliable charge when installed with a connection to a 220-volt line. It will take eight hours to fully charge the Nissan LEAF from a fully discharged state.

Cyclone Power Technologies Inc. has completed and shipped a full scale model of the engine it is building for the U.S. Land Steam Record Team. The high performance Cyclone LSR Engine will power the streamliner vehicle which will attempt to break the world land speed record for steam vehicles in Bonneville, UT, as early as August of this year.
The Cyclone LSR Engine is a modified Mark V heat-regenerative external combustion engine, capable of producing 180 HP with maximum starting torque of 850 ft/lbs and 262 ft/lbs @ 3600 RPM. It boasts an expanded steam generator to create greater surface area and water rate, which will dramatically increase power output, while keeping the engine’s total weight below 200lbs. Steam car veteran and team leader Chuk Williams will design, build and drive the U.S. Land Steam Record (USLSR) vehicle, which will attempt a 200mph record-breaking run.
