Renault-Nissan Alliance and MOBI.E Tech Partner to Promote Electric Mobility

Nissan Leaf EV

The Renault-Nissan Alliance and the Portuguese consortium MOBI.E Tech have partnered for the promotion of electric mobility in Portugal, one of the first countries in the world to adopt a countrywide electric mobility policy.  MOBI.E will include charging stations accessible to all electric vehicle brands. The stations will be installed all over Portugal, in places such as public car parks, shopping centers, hotels, airports and gasoline stations. Electric vehicle users will require only an identification card to access the network, regardless of the charging station location, providing a quick and seamless experience.

The network will have normal charging points which will be able to charge an electric vehicle in 6 to 8 hours, using wind energy produced during the night, as well as rapid charging points which will charge an electric vehicle in less than 30 minutes.  Continue reading Renault-Nissan Alliance and MOBI.E Tech Partner to Promote Electric Mobility

First Renewable Energy Rodeo- June 7th-10th at Fort Bliss, Texas

This is a really cool and exciting event. The U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) and Fort Bliss are co-hosting the first Renewable Energy Rodeo and Symposium. The event will display the latest mature technologies and innovations in renewable energy concepts and alternative fuel technologies available. Subject Matter Experts (SME) panel discussions and guest speakers will include some of the nation’s top experts in these fields and technologies. SME panel sessions will convene to brief and discuss critical energy topics affecting the military and the nation.

This is a very reasonably priced event to attend.  The registration fee is only $100 and students are admitted free of charge.  Given the cost and the cutting edge topics to be discussed, only the proximity to the Mexican border drug violence will keep potential attendees away.  This is what will be discussed: Continue reading First Renewable Energy Rodeo- June 7th-10th at Fort Bliss, Texas

Green Car News Shorts for May 25th, 2010

Here is the latest Green Car news for Tuesday, May 25th:

  • Fuel Cell Vehicle JV Under Debate Between Daimler and Toyota: FT Deutschland have reported that Daimler and Toyota are discussing a joint development of fuel cells for electric vehicles.  ‘There is strong interest in sharing development costs’ via a joint venture, a source close to Daimler told the Financial Times Deutschland. It would be the first major cooperative project for the two groups, the newspaper added.  Daimler has already invested more than one billion euros (S$1.75 billion) in fuel cell technology since 1994, two years after Toyota began exploring it.

  • Fuel cell developer Trenergi Corp. has raised more than half of a seed round of $1 million in debt, according to a regulatory filing and the company’s president. The Hopkinton-based company, now about a year old, is aiming to develop fuel cells that would generate electricity for residences while producing heat and hot water as a free byproduct. The technology is intended to save an average of approximately 28 percent of energy cost, said company president Charles Myers.

  • The Chevy Volt is being spotted on the streets of Metro-Detroit gearing up for its official launch.

  • Ford is investing $135 million to bring battery pack and hybrid vehicle transmission production to metro Detroit. The work is currently done in Mexico and Japan.

Will Alternative Fuel Maker Joule Help Save the Planet or ......?

Joule, the Massachusetts based company founded in 2007, had its solar platform for renewable fuel production included among the MIT Technology Review’s 2010 TR10, an annual list of the world’s ten most important emerging technologies. The distinction follows Joule’s selection to the 2010 TR50 in February, which recognized the world’s 50 most innovative companies. Alongside Google, Joule was one of only two companies to achieve both honors.  This is quite impressive company they are in.  They claim that their technology can, at full-scale production, generate billions of gallons of renewable diesel in a highly-efficient process that conserves natural resources and consumes waste CO2.  This sounds exciting but when you get into the details of the technology, I get a nagging memory of a Michael Crichton story of genetic engineering gone horribly wrong. This technology could literally change the world, we hope for the better. But with the technical problems that are being experienced capping an oil well in the Gulf of Mexico, should we not be asking what the ramifications of an industrial accident involving proprietary genetically engineered organisms would be?  Judge for yourself,  here is how the technology works: Continue reading Will Alternative Fuel Maker Joule Help Save the Planet or ……?
